Imagine an ordinary morning, and then, in a single instant, all life on Earth stops. People, animals, insects, bacteria - everything dies at the same moment. But what is more chilling than the death is what happens next: the bodies keep moving, keep walking about, keep working as if nothing had happened. That is the tragedy recorded in the file for SCP-2935, codenamed "O, Death" - one of the most haunting objects in the SCP Foundation.

What is SCP-2935?

SCP-2935 is not a creature or a machine that can be locked in a steel room. It is the name for an apocalyptic event: on a certain day, all organic life on the planet simultaneously ceases to function biologically. And yet the world does not collapse into chaos. On the contrary, everything "carries on" in an uncanny way - people still talk, still eat, still write reports, even though in fact they are all walking corpses.

The most horrifying detail of SCP-2935 lies with the Foundation staff drafting the documentation. The further you read, the more you realise that the people writing the report died long ago too, and are merely repeating the habits of life in bodies that no longer hold any.

Classification: Keter

SCP-2935 is placed in the Keter class - the category for objects that are extremely dangerous and all but impossible to contain. In the SCP Foundation system, a Keter object is something the Foundation cannot fully control and can only try to delay or mitigate. With SCP-2935, even that is meaningless: the catastrophe has already happened, and no procedure can reverse the death of an entire world.

Containment procedures

In theory, the Foundation requires personnel to keep carrying out their duties as usual in order to "maintain order". But the containment procedure for SCP-2935 is in essence a collective self-deception:

• Personnel are instructed not to acknowledge that they themselves have died.
• All daily activity must be maintained as though life still existed.
• The reports are heavily censored, and grow more panicked and disjointed as they go on.
• There is no "neutralisation" option - you cannot stop an event that has already finished.

The description and the horror of the story

What makes SCP-2935 so terrifying is its quiet, hopeless atmosphere. There is no screaming, none of the gore of a horror film. There is only a world of corpses still smiling, still typing at keyboards, still calling one another by name - while deep down they all know something appalling has happened and nobody dares to name it.

The codename "O, Death" is drawn from an old folk song in which a person begs Death to spare them "one more year". In the SCP-2935 file, that plea comes far too late. Death has arrived, has taken everything, and has left behind a planet of ghosts who believe they are still alive.
