SCP-1048 - Builder Bear: the adorable teddy that builds copies of itself
Imagine a tiny, soft teddy bear that waves hello and hugs you affectionately. Everyone adores it. But behind that endearing exterior lies a horrifying secret: SCP-1048, nicknamed Builder Bear, has been quietly assembling its own "children" out of flesh, ear cartilage and bone taken from both people and animals. It is one of the most haunting objects in SCP Foundation.
What is SCP-1048?
SCP-1048 is a handmade teddy bear about 35 cm tall, made of cotton fabric and buttons, looking exactly like an ordinary toy. The anomaly is that it can move on its own, show emotion, wave, draw pictures and hug staff like a living creature. At first, people at the Foundation even treated SCP-1048 as a charming "mascot" and gave it a fond nickname.
The truth came out only when it was discovered that Builder Bear was secretly making other bears just like itself, out of materials no one could have imagined.
Object class: Keter
SCP-1048 is rated Object Class: Keter, the most dangerous level in the SCP Foundation system. The Keter class is for objects that are extremely hard to contain, behave unpredictably and carry the risk of death or catastrophe if they slip out of control. It is precisely the innocent appearance, which so easily lowers people's guard, that makes SCP-1048 more frightening and harder to control than ever.
Containment procedures
Because it is mobile and unpredictable, SCP-1048 is kept in a closely monitored area at one of the Foundation's Sites. Staff are strictly forbidden to interact with it, cuddle it or let it come close to their bodies. All of its activity must be watched continuously on camera, and any biological material appearing around the area is confiscated and destroyed at once to stop it "building" more of its kind.
Description and the chilling story
What turns SCP-1048 into a nightmare are the "versions" it creates:
- SCP-1048-A: a bear pieced together from human ear cartilage and tissue. More frighteningly, several staff members began growing ears on their skin, and those ears later vanished mysteriously.
- SCP-1048-B: a bear made of metal fragments and rusted screws, extremely aggressive, suspected of involvement in the deaths and disappearances of personnel at the Site.
- SCP-1048-C: an entity stitched together from pieces of human skin and flesh, patched together in a hideous way.
It is believed that SCP-1048 uses the bodies of the people around it as "material" for its creations. The bear that was once adored has become a symbol of the horror hidden beneath a sweet surface — a reminder that what looks most harmless is sometimes the most dangerous.
The story of SCP-1048 - Builder Bear still makes horror fans shiver every time it comes up. Note: this is a work of fiction belonging to the SCP Foundation collective writing project (creepypasta/collaborative fiction) and is entirely unreal. The content is only for entertainment and for exploring the mysterious, the extraordinary and the strange.
