SCP-096 The Shy Guy: the monster that hunts anyone who sees its face

SCP-096

In the dense catalogue of SCP Foundation files, few entities make the skin crawl through a rule as chillingly simple as this one: never look at its face. This is SCP-096, the entity nicknamed "The Shy Guy" (The Shy Guy) — one of the most searched-for and most talked-about objects in the entire fictional universe.

What is SCP-096?

SCP-096 is a humanoid creature about 2.38 metres tall, so thin it looks like skin over bone, with unusually long arms out of proportion to its body. Its skin is pale, almost without pigment, and its muscles are so wasted that it appears frail. Ordinarily SCP-096 is very docile, wandering aimlessly and often covering its face with its hands as though weeping.

But that calm lasts only until the moment someone sees its face — in person, in a photograph, in a video, or even in a drawing detailed enough. At once SCP-096 enters a state of extreme agitation.

Object class: Euclid

SCP-096 is classified Object Class: Euclid. In the SCP Foundation system, Euclid covers entities whose behaviour is hard to predict and impossible to control fully, yet which can still be contained through strict procedures. SCP-096 is the textbook case: as long as its face is unseen it is harmless, but once "triggered" it becomes an almost unstoppable hunting machine.

Why not Keter?

Because the danger of SCP-096 can be prevented entirely by following one rule: let no one see its face. It is precisely this "preventable" quality that keeps it at Euclid rather than a higher danger class.

Containment procedures

According to the file, SCP-096 is held in a sealed steel cell measuring 5m x 5m x 5m with absolutely no recording equipment or observation window of any kind. All personnel are strictly forbidden to look at its face in any form.

  • No cameras, no windows, no image material of the face anywhere in the containment area.
  • Any photograph or video containing SCP-096's face must be destroyed or placed under strict lockdown.
  • If a trigger incident occurs, the Foundation tracks its route and recovers it after the target has been eliminated.

Description and the chilling story

When its face is seen, SCP-096 immediately drops into a crouch, covers its face and screams — a scream recorded as carrying for kilometres. After a few minutes it springs up and races off at terrifying speed, heading straight for whoever saw its face, however far away they are and whatever obstacles lie in the way.

The most frightening part: distance saves no one. Even if the victim is half a world away, SCP-096 will cross walls, mountains and oceans to reach them. When it arrives it tears the victim apart in a frenzy, then returns at once to its docile state, sitting and weeping as though nothing had happened. No one who has "met" SCP-096 has survived to tell of it.

Note: SCP-096 "The Shy Guy" is a work of fiction belonging to the SCP Foundation community writing project (creepypasta / collaborative fiction). It is entirely unreal, existing only as a horror legend built up by countless authors around the world.
