SCP-093 The Red Sea Object: the mirror gateway into a ruined parallel world

Imagine a small disc the colour of blood, apparently harmless, yet press it against a mirror and a whole other world opens in front of you: a parallel world utterly destroyed, unnervingly silent, waiting for anyone reckless enough to step through. This is SCP-093, also known as The Red Sea Object, one of the most haunting objects in SCP Foundation.

What is SCP-093?

SCP-093 is a small round disc a few centimetres across, made of an unidentified material and bearing its characteristic red. The first anomaly of The Red Sea Object is that its colour changes according to where it is and which way it is carried: taken away from the place it was found, the disc turns in sequence to orange, yellow, green and then blue, as though pointing the way back to some mysterious location.

But the most terrifying property appears only when SCP-093 is pressed against a reflective surface such as a mirror. At once the mirror becomes a gateway into another dimension, and whoever holds the disc can step through to explore the land on the other side.

Object class: Euclid

In the SCP Foundation system, SCP-093 is rated Euclid. This class covers objects whose behaviour is erratic, not fully understood and impossible to predict precisely. Euclid is not dangerously out of control like Keter, but neither is it as docile and stable as Safe. With a portal into a deadly world and a mysterious colour-changing mechanism, The Red Sea Object fully earns the Euclid label.

Containment procedures

SCP-093 is kept under strict conditions inside a secure container in the organisation's research area. Typical containment rules include:

• The disc must be stored in a locked case, kept entirely away from any reflective surface.
• Every handling operation requires authorisation from senior personnel.
• Expeditions through the mirror gateway are carried out only by trained exploration teams equipped with cameras and full recording gear.
• Exploration logs must be recorded and archived for analysis.

Description and the chilling story

What has made SCP-093 a legend are the exploration logs from the far side of the mirror. Survey teams describe a desolate parallel world: cities in ruins, a sombre sky, a dried-up "red sea" and the traces of a civilisation wiped out by some catastrophe.

In that deathly stillness the explorers meet deformed creatures, shapes flickering out of sight, and the constant sense of being watched. Many who stepped through the gateway never came back, leaving behind unfinished recordings full of panic. It is the shifting colour of The Red Sea Object that leads them deeper into the mystery, towards what is believed to be the centre of the catastrophe that destroyed that world.
