Visiting Shirakawago Ancient Village at the Foot of Mount Hakusan
Shirakawago ancient village is located at the foot of Mount Hakusan, Gifu Prefecture in central Japan, about 350km from Tokyo. Shirakawago in Japanese means village of white rivers. Shirakawago ancient village was recognized as a World Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO in 1995.
According to research, this village was established 300 years ago. Despite many changes over time, every small corner of the village still retains its traditional beauty. It can be said that all four seasons in Shirakawago ancient village are worth admiring, but autumn offers the most special experience.
In autumn, the trees in Shirakawago turn into warm colors, creating a vibrant picture of red, yellow, and orange. Golden rice fields and brilliant rows of maple trees create a very attractive scenery for visitors.
