Enchanted by the beauty of water lily season on Yen Stream, My Duc, Hanoi. Not as bustling as the Huong Pagoda festival season, Yen Stream during the water lily season is peaceful and picturesque.

Yen Stream in My Duc District (Hanoi) is home to many water lilies that bloom beautifully. In September, October, and November, the flowers bloom fully on the surface of the stream. Visitors can take a scenic cruise in the gentle, serene sunlight.



Located about 60km from Hanoi, Yen Stream is also known by another name, Vi Stream – a stream situated within the scenic landscape complex of Huong Pagoda in Huong Son Commune, My Duc District, Hanoi. According to local folklore, it is called Yen Stream because its shape resembles the fanned-out tail of a swiftlet. Yen Stream is about 4km long, starting from Duc Wharf. To reach the scenic Huong Pagoda, this waterway is the only route available to visitors. While during the Huong Pagoda festival, Yen Stream is bustling with boats passing to and fro from morning till night, lively and noisy with tens of thousands of visitors every day, Yen Stream during the water lily season is completely the opposite.





If during the festival and pilgrimage season visitors come here to worship Buddha, then during the water lily season, visitors come simply to admire the scenery and take photos. Gone is the overcrowding, gone are all kinds of noisy sounds; Yen Stream in late autumn and early winter when the water lilies bloom retains only tranquility and a poetic, landscape-painting beauty that is even more stunning than a picture.



Water lilies usually bloom brilliantly in the morning and close up at noon, showing off their pink hues along the banks of Yen Stream. Water lilies also tend to bloom individually; only at a few spots can you see a whole patch of water lilies blooming together. Yet, it is precisely this sparse, nonchalant nature—some blossoms open, some closed—that creates the unique beauty of this flower.





Water lilies consist of two main categories: hardy water lilies and tropical water lilies. Hardy species bloom only during the day, while tropical species can bloom during the day or at night. These flowers usually rise about 10 to over 20 cm above the water, with leaves laying flat in rows on the surface. When sunlight shines down, the water lilies display a unique charm compared to many other species.





Visitors usually come here on weekends. Just one day is enough to explore and enjoy the beauty of Yen Stream as well as capture memorable photos with friends or family. Even on weekends, visitors can easily find private spots to admire the scenery and relax.
