Cu Lao Cham - The Blue Gem

Although still considered a rough gem, Cu Lao Cham has become an attractive destination for many domestic and foreign tourists whenever visiting Hoi An.

Anyone traveling to Hoi An visits Cu Lao Cham, a place with a diverse ecosystem and a global biosphere reserve.

Cu Lao Cham

Cu Lao Cham is an archipelago consisting of 8 small islets: Hon Dai, Hon Mo, Hon Lao, Hon Kho Me, Hon Kho Con, Hon La, Hon Tai, and Hon Ong. Nature has endowed this place with green forests, vast seas, and an extremely diverse ecosystem, thanks to which Cu Lao Cham was recognized by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve.

Cu Lao Cham preserves its marine ecosystem almost intact

With a total area of about 15.5 km2 and a population of 3,000 residents, Cu Lao Cham is located 18 km from the center of Hoi An City, currently preserving almost intact a marine ecosystem of 950 aquatic species, including many rare fish and corals.

Transportation to the island

From Cua Dai Beach, there are two means of transport to reach the island: taking a wooden boat takes about an hour, while choosing a speedboat takes only around 20 minutes for visitors to set foot on the island.
Note that boats start carrying passengers to Cu Lao Cham from 8:00 AM and return to the mainland between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM. If not staying overnight on the island, visitors should leave early to have more time to explore.

Hai Tang Pagoda

Hai Tang Pagoda - an ancient pagoda built over 400 years ago to serve the religious needs of local residents. The pagoda has no head monk, but only an elderly couple tending to the incense.

Surrounding the island is clear blue sea water, making Cu Lao Cham look like a gem in the ocean.

Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy fresh seafood caught and prepared right on the beach. Tourism here is not yet commercialized, so dining and accommodation services are very reasonably priced.

Vu nang snail - a seafood species with an unusual name that attracts diners, but its quantity is limited in Cu Lao Cham.

Green tourism
Before stepping onto the island, visitors are advised not to bring plastic bags because Cu Lao Cham aims for green, eco-friendly tourism development alongside environmental protection.
