Among the countless top-secret files of SCP Foundation, few names raise the hair on the back of the neck like SCP-106 — the entity staff refer to by a chilling nickname: "The Old Man". A blackened, rotting figure that shuffles slowly along, leaving behind slick trails of corrosion and the whispers of victims who never came back. This is the story of one of the most frightening objects ever recorded.
What is SCP-106?
SCP-106 takes the shape of a very old man whose body is in heavy decomposition, the flesh darkened and rotting like a corpse buried for years. What makes The Old Man terrible is not his appearance but his anomalous ability: SCP-106 can pass through any solid matter — concrete walls, steel floors, toughened glass — as though none of it existed.
Wherever SCP-106 touches a surface he leaves a black corrosive slime that rots and rusts the material almost instantly. That trail of corrosion is the sign that The Old Man has just passed by, and a warning that comes too late for anyone still alive.
Object class: Keter
In the SCP Foundation system, Object Class: Keter is the level reserved for objects that are extremely dangerous and very hard to contain. Unlike Safe (secure once controlled) or Euclid (unpredictable behaviour), a Keter entity such as SCP-106 constantly tends to break out, cause serious damage and threaten human life directly. Holding The Old Man requires special procedures, and almost no measure is absolutely safe.
Containment procedures
Because SCP-106 can pass through any wall, no ordinary physical cell can hold him. According to the file, The Old Man usually remains voluntarily in a "sleeping" state, and the Foundation is not permitted to disturb him without cause.
- No provocation: Any action that provokes SCP-106 is absolutely forbidden unless a test has been ordered.
- Bait: When SCP-106 escapes, the recovery procedure usually uses a living individual as bait to lure him back into the containment area.
- Constant monitoring: The whole area is watched for corrosion trails — the only sign that The Old Man is on the move.
Description and the chilling story
What makes SCP-106 a true nightmare is his pocket dimension. When The Old Man touches a victim, that person is pulled into a parallel space under SCP-106's own control — a damp, dark labyrinth thick with the smell of decay.
In that world, time seems to stop. SCP-106 hunts, torments and tortures his prey for hours, even days, before finishing them. Very few victims ever get out, and those lucky enough to survive usually carry permanent psychological trauma. The Old Man seems to take particular pleasure in choosing young prey, turning their fear into entertainment.
