SCP-105 Iris - the girl in the photograph: the Polaroid you can reach into

SCP-105

Imagine holding an old Polaroid photograph and, instead of merely looking at the moment frozen inside it, being able to reach your hand through the paper and take anything within the frame. That is the unsettling, captivating power of SCP-105 — one of the strangest anomalies held by the secretive organisation known as SCP Foundation.

What is SCP-105?

SCP-105, known by the nickname Iris - the girl in the photograph, is a young woman with an extraordinary ability tied to photography. Iris herself looks like any ordinary young woman. What makes her a special research subject is her Polaroid camera: whenever she takes a picture, she can look through the photograph as though it were a window opening onto the very place it was taken, and can even put her hand into the picture and take objects from there.

The camera that decides everything

The crux of the anomaly is the resonance between Iris and the camera. Only photographs she takes herself become "gateways". She can retrieve small objects and touch scenery thousands of kilometres away — an ability that makes SCP-105 at once harmless and of enormous potential strategic value.

Object class: Safe

In the SCP Foundation classification system, SCP-105 is rated Object Class: Safe. "Safe" does not mean absolutely harmless; it indicates that the anomaly can be contained easily and stably when not activated. Iris is fully conscious and cooperative, and her ability only manifests through the camera. That is why she is considered safe to hold — as long as the device is tightly controlled.

Containment procedures

According to the file, SCP-105 is housed in a comfortable living area closer to an apartment than a cell, reflecting how cooperative she is. The containment rules revolve mainly around the camera:

  • The Polaroid camera is stored separately and handed to Iris only under supervision.
  • Every photograph she takes must be logged, archived or destroyed according to procedure.
  • Iris is treated with respect and may take part in certain special assignments for the organisation.

It is this humane treatment that has made SCP-105 one of the best-loved characters in the whole SCP universe.

Description & the chilling story

What makes Iris - the girl in the photograph haunting is not violence or monsters but the fragile feeling between two worlds. Consider it: a photograph is a moment already dead, already gone — and yet her hand can still touch it, stirring a layer of time that seemed immobile. If she can reach into a past frozen in a picture, might something on the other side reach back? The darkness in old frames, the blurred faces in the background — all of it suddenly becomes frighteningly alive.

Note: SCP-105 and the whole SCP Foundation universe are works of fiction in the community-writing genre (collaborative fiction/creepypasta). None of this is a real event. This article is for entertainment and for exploring this inventive world of online horror fiction.
