SCP-053 The Young Girl: the three-year-old who drives adults to madness and violence
Imagine a three-year-old girl with clear eyes, an innocent smile and tiny hands held out to be picked up. There is nothing frightening about the child. And yet any adult who stays near her too long gradually becomes paranoid, loses their mind, and in the end turns on the people around them. This is SCP-053 — one of the most haunting and most painful files in SCP Foundation.
What is SCP-053?
SCP-053, nicknamed "The Young Girl" (Young Girl), is biologically an ordinary little girl in every respect: about three years old, healthy, able to speak and play, with feelings like any child. What makes her an anomaly held by SCP Foundation is an invisible effect radiating around her: any highly conscious creature — adult humans above all — who is in contact with her for a prolonged period gradually falls into a state of hostility, suspicion and uncontrolled violence.
The most paradoxical and painful part is that SCP-053 herself is entirely harmless in intent. The child has no wish to hurt anyone; on the contrary, she often seems sad, frightened and bewildered when the people around her suddenly turn on one another.
Object class: Euclid
SCP-053 is rated Euclid. In the SCP Foundation classification system, a Euclid anomaly is one that is hard to predict and impossible to control fully, yet not dangerous to the world-ending degree of Keter. The Young Girl is Euclid in the truest sense: not aggressive herself, not actively destructive, but with an effect that is unpredictable and varies with time and with each individual exposed.
Containment procedures
Because SCP-053 is only a child, the containment procedures are far more humane than for most anomalies:
- She is kept in a comfortable room with plenty of toys, books and items suitable for a small child.
- All direct contact must be strictly limited in duration to avoid triggering the violent effect.
- Only designated personnel — usually Class-D staff already on the termination list — are permitted to be near her.
- No member of staff may remain near SCP-053 beyond the permitted safe interval.
Description and the chilling story
What makes the SCP-053 file haunting is not gore but absolute loneliness. Anyone who comes close to comfort her, care for her, or simply play with her gradually becomes a threat — to others and to the child herself. The effect spreads like an invisible fever: first discomfort, then suspicion, then hatred, until the victim believes the girl must be "removed" at any cost.
Reports describe ordinary, mild-mannered adults who, after a few hours beside SCP-053, suddenly turn frenzied, attack colleagues and try to harm the child. Meanwhile The Young Girl can only cry and call out names, unable to understand why every adult around her has turned into a monster. A child fated to become the centre of violence, never able to have one whole, warm embrace.
Note: SCP-053 and the whole SCP Foundation universe are collectively written fiction (collaborative fiction / creepypasta) on the SCP Wiki platform. The characters, "files" and events in this article are entirely unreal, written for entertainment and to spark the imagination.
